Steve. I tried the technique on some young material and found it very rewarding. We never finish learning something new and I'm sure that we can all learn from one another.
Thanks! I'm going to demonstrate that at my club sometime soon. It will save a lot of wire scarring which goes on.
PS Hey, I've got a second tool in my pouch.

Nice demo.
This is my first year playing with Eucs and fortunately for me I live near a nursery with an abundance of 1-2 meter pathetically neglected E Nicholii. All are dormant due to being pot bound and ready for action. I've bought two so far, chopped the trunks, hacked the roots then watched them go crazy.
Wiring this new growth seemed rational to me, so I did it with some good results, but they sure thicken up fast so it was off after 3 weeks! I can see how the method you advocate here would be much safer! Thanks for the tip.

Great post Steve! I've also enjoyed your practical demo at the AABC Convention in Melbourne
BTW the large cutting of the Melaleuca you worked on in Boon’s workshop is still alive and hopefully getting some roots
- it’s in the hothouse for protection.
Thanks again and Cheers,

Just discovered this post. Fantastic technique, Steven. Thanks for sharing.
We should now see some 'euc' looking trees on display. I've long pointed out the charasteristic ziggy lines of euc branches. Ted's Angophora at the NBPCA has those lines - all by clip and grow apparently. Now others can have them too. I'll give it a go on mine this next growing season.

Brilliant. I have been experimenting with this cage-type wiring, but I like your method stretching the spring out, as opposed to just wrapping it at 45 around the mould.
Thanks mate.
