Ok thanks for clarifying that Daiviet, I was not sure if you had read the article before. It is a well written article but I found it is a little biased against a "drainage layer"

I think the important thing is to take in the physics of what a "Drainage Layer" really does and think about how this might be used to our advantage.

We might be starting to confuse Luke but hopefully he gets something out of the article :fc:

Went to my clubs workshop tonight, and nearly everyone there thought it was advisable that I re-pot ASAP, and that it should be fine to do so now as long as I only tease the roots slightly (eg no root pruning) Anyway I found the roots to be coiled underneath the tree like it had been in a small plastic nursery pot for several years. The tree is 6 years old so I would assume it had only just progressed to a bonsai pot. I tried to get rid of as much of the original soil as possible with out disrupting too much, but I did poke a fair bit of soil from underneath it. Anyway here it is after repotting. It is in a mix of Diatomite, zeolite, and pine bark mini nuggets. I will try and find some mycorrhiza in the local pine forest to add to the mix over the next week or so. But for now it is being kept in the shade after a dose of seasol.

Thanks for your interest people :tu:
