Hey Chad,
I was given a small strunk piece so its on its own roots not a graft.
You could take hardwood cuttings from your manchurian pear now, cut them about 6-8" long with atleast 3 nodes, insert them atleast half their length in horticultural sand & keep moist.
I gave this a bit of a trim the other day & have stuck all the offcuts in a pot, heres hoping some strike.

Yeah thats what i have done, have put down about 20 so will see how they go. Just interested to see if they all strike, will have plenty to play with at various sizes. Have done plenty of hard wood cuttings over the years but they were for nursery stock so was after a different style and also usually grafted or budded pyrus but the graft is to high for bonsai

I took this to Bendigo today, to see if it was a suitable tree for my first workshop... I was told no, it really didn't need anything doing to it... lol, Everyone admired it!

It looks alot better with a change of angle & all wired out... With a couple of years ramification it should look a treat.
BUT
If your not totally happy with it then bugger what others say.
What changes would you make? How would you like to see it?

I'm happy with it, I should imagine it will change is small ways over the years, as it buds etc.. I broke a few bits while wiring it... I thought I'd smothered it in wire... then QV came along and put more on! lol

I have a large one of these which will need pruning this spring. If anyone in the western burbs (west of the rabbit proof fence) wants to get a cutting, PM me.

Your happy I am happy, the wiring looks more work than the packaging. I dont like the job of taking it off but it is exactly what it needed. Keep it well fed & it grows pretty quick.
