Even though it is a month or so early I decided it was best to get in and cut the top off all the pines in the small pots as it was getting to difficult to find the pots to water under all the trunks. I will leave the ones in the larger pots for another month or so.
I found some of the shapes from wiring as a whip interesting. Some will be more challenging than others to find a plan but I think all will have a future

Most of these here had the wire left on but I also have just as many that I took the wire off. They are not as big yet but you can see some examples on the previos page.

So the wire has accelerated the thickening? It will be interesting if the scars heal differently down the track on the wire left on ones and the wire off ones.
In Japan i saw trees that had wire inside them and you couldnt tell at all, but those trees were as thick as my leg... it will be interesting to see how they go on smaller trees.
I think the first I heard about allowing the tree to swallow the wire was on Lindsay's World of Bonsai. The trees where massive and the grower was pointing out where the wire scars where. Buggerd if I could see them but yes I expected to have to grow them pretty large to get rid of the wire scars but the largest one is looking pretty good and I reckon by the time it barks up it will be hard to see.I like the shape of this one at the moment and I think I will start to develop it as a bonsai next season. First step will be to have the top removed and a new leader chosen by spring.

I also used various size wire as I just used offcuts on hand. Next time I would be more selective with the wire I use and the bends I put in. Looser bends with thick wire for large trees and thin wire with tighter bends for shohin.
There are so many ways to grow pine from seed. I plan to do a few with exposed roots like Ray Nesci showed us.
