Lovely tree Peter,

As you know I have had an eye on this tree as a loan to the collection soon and it is looking lovely with your constant attention.

One of the best in Australia and has the advantage of no mildew problems that they get on the coast.

Nice. I gotta go back to visit Canada in Autumn again sometime. Last time I was there, Autumn colour was awsome. My family lives in MA of the US and I often drove to canada when I visit my family. I haven't been doing that since my Mum passed away in 2004 due to lung cancer. She used to love canadian maples. Sadly she died young and I didn't have a chance to turn one of those maple to bonsai to give her :(
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

I was watering in the wee hours this morning and the red colour of the winter foliage stood out so I took a picture to share. Not the best pic.

awesome colours pete!!

this is a very nice tree, one of the best i have seen actually! Im curious, has this trees apex been taken down some since the first pic in the thread? otherwise would you consider going down a little lower to give the tree a more rounded, older oak feel?

love the tree anyways :D

Looking great Peter! A very natural and graceful tree.

I'd love to know the history and process you took to develop it. i.e. where did you get it, is that a trunk chop 2/3's up? Wire or clip and grow etc?

Regards,
Steven

Hi Steven,

I bought this tree from the clubs sales table as stock in about 2004. Our current President was the seller of several which she had dug out of the grounds of the old Olympic bowl site in the city opposite the Olympic pool. It was self seeded from the Oaks planted in that area.
As for training it has been mainly clip and grow and is partly defoliated once a year when the new leaves harden around November/December.

Yes it was cut there, I cleaned and carved it and now it has nearly healed over.

Peter
