No, never tried. But from what I've read ficus layer easily and quick too.

No reason why you cant bring one of those lower branches down let it extend and feed the new growth through a hole and create a thread graft that way. It will all be experience for you.

Thanks bohdi, more food for thought. Hope fully ill get atleast one living tree from the three. Could even do a different approach on each and see which goes best.

Vey good idea Diederik. I have a benji I have been working on for a few years and got sick of waiting for a bud to magically appear where I wanted. So I am in the process of thread grafting a branch to where I wanted. As previously mentioned they are very poor at backbudding along the trunk - especially where you want it :palm:
