Re: Black Pine Style and Pot
wondering if have you considered removing or jinning the first branch and bending down the next three or four branches--along with a slightly different planting angle

Not enough fine branching yet to create the overall pad shape.
This will take a few more years to get right.

Just a pic as it sat back in January this year, It has since been candle cut and will be placed in a new pot soon.
Over all i am happy this tree has survived and how it has progressed over the past 4 years.

Re: Black Pine Style and Pot
Well done with this tree mate! Unfortunately my limited time on pines isn't churning out anything worth posting.
Either way beautiful tree!
Cheers,
Pearcy.

It is nice Moss but I almost feel it is taking away from the nebari. If the Moss is filling holes then keep it. But if it is just there for the sake of it I think the tree will be much stronger with the wider nebari exposed. Just food for thought mate.kvan64 wrote:Really nice! Love the moss too.

Yes the moss detracts from the nebari, I got lazy and haven't cleaned it off the trunk yet.
It's not there to hide anything.... I will fix it in the coming weeks and post an update.

Liking its little brother a lot
seems like you have figured out needle reduction well in your area. They have opened and lengthened to a desired size I reckon .

Re: Black Pine Style and Pot
Lovely tree's Illya.
I wonder though regarding the bigger brother.
Would a smaller more squat tree with more definitive taper achieve a better image?
Ie reduce the height, choose a new lower leader and aim for a more rounded canopy?
