Ahh.. Matt... Not sure that "dwarf" equates to Bonsai...
However... I have seen smaller dwarf sunflowers in the rocky outcrops and areas around Broken Hill, Wilcannia, White Cliffs, where they sprout and "struggle" between small crevices and cracks between the rocks - bonsai-style...
Many trees in the same areas are very "stunted" due to the harsh dry conditions, high temperatures (40 - 50C in summer) low humidirt and low rainfall... Some of the Mulga and 'wild' Acacia etc occur naturally as pre-bonsai...
