Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude (but it did come off a bit like that :palm: )

It's a great little tree but the needles seemed impossibly tiny! Maybe you're just doing the right thing! :D

I haven't got any Austrians, maybe Apline could say if it is?

No problems Scott, I did not think anyhing was rude.
The needles are reasonably fine and in autumn I am very severe on it when I pluck needles. I remove old needles and select the longest of the new needles and removing them also. This exercise takes a while but the results are pleasing.

Lovely Colletion there Gerard
I myself are on the road to a larger proportion of Shohin trees. But very few of mine are in a decent pot and worth showing tho :crybye:

They a much easier to care for and maintain then larger trees :-)

You are right Ken,
They take a while to establish but once putted up they grow slowly and maintenance is much easier than the larger trees but watering needs closer attention. They display very nicely alongside large trees the size differences emphasize the best aspects.

An update on the little black pine, I removed a major back branch.

It was a bar branch with a good option of a replacement branch just above.
I expect a quick recovery

Those Gerard look like some tiny little needles, shame to loose such a nice branch, but it is these confident decisions that often make for a much better tree in the long run.

Hi Gerard,

Being a massive fan of Shohin, I love your trees as each one tells a story of its own. The last JBP you posted is a real treat and if one was to describe it, it would be in one word and in the voice of Bruce McAvaney, "Special !".

I look foward to you sharing them again down the track.

Cheers

David

An update on the chinese elm root over rock purchased a couple of years ago from the collection of the late Hing Lin.

I like the way it looks when the foliage begins to burst.

A really nice tree Gerard  Would you consider pulling the large left hand branch down further. :?:
