That's exactly what I did just now coupled with the part defoliation.
Depending on the results and my perception of the tree's strength I may do another trim/defoliate this year.

I did try and strike the cutting (which was hardwood and around pencil thick) but unfortunately it didn't take.
Looked promising for a very long time but didn't quite pull through.
I'm very happy with the pot as well it suits well through all seasons IMO.
