A new look at my garden

Hi Guys , its been many years of hunting and gathering , cave men were doing it , hunter /gatherers . I hunt and gather plants , it was bikes , then cars , i had collected a few brides , then i found the right one she is definitely a keeper . My wife tells all her friends i'm her hobby or is that hubby . Time management is the key to a happy household , Karen tolerates my obsession , it could be worse , tree's appear in the grounds and i just don't know where they come from , mind you i could add 100 more and wifey would know . I have promised to reduce the collection soon , been saying that for a few years , now the Lady just ignores me . If i had 50 big bonsai in 2 years they would all be Shohin or mame , i would cut , trim , hack and chop until there was nothing left but a stump in a pot . I actually get to work most of these every year , in all that spare time i have .

Hi The specimen , if you take at the grow beds look you can see the black and white kangaroo catcher on duty . They have been persuaded to stay out of the tree's . Welcome to come up anytime , i get lost in here everyday .

Mate that is an awesome collection you have there, Its a loverly little part od the world down where you are. I passed through the the first time this year for the snow, I can see that you would have some great collection options Makes my limited 20 odd tree collection look like chicken feed...hehehehe... I'm iun the process of trying to fine some nice olives and natives to collect and build up my yamadori stock although I'm struggling to find any good spots in newcastle.

Hi Ryan , mate we all started with a couple of plants , some of us just got a little bit carried away . All the material here is different and definitely unique in every sense of the word . The greatest challenge was hunting for it which has come to a stand still and will probably fade into history for me .There's more than enough here to keep me off the streets and out of trouble .

Hi Guys , don't need a book , treat them all the same . Unconditional love , nurture them , feed them , love them and spoil them , and they grow and flourish into unique beauties .

I am familiar with your disease. My dad used to have over 400 roses for many years. I'm just beginning with bonsai, and the other day over dinner I mentioned to my wife that I could imagine myself getting into bonsai the way my dad is with roses.

I would describe the look she gave me as 80% bemusement and 20% terror.

H Eddieperth, mate you have to take small steps when hitting the missus with that sort of logic . That would have been like a smack in the face with a wet fish . Just go out and buy 50 pot plants and a bonsai for Her , then your on your way , for every purchase give her a gift , create a unique piece for her . My wife has a ripper Bonsai i made for her , i don't think i have any just heaps of trainers .

Every birthday fathers day and Christmas i get some sort of Bonsai material , be it tools , pots , or even a plant from which i create a trainer out of , sooner or later it will be you who is telling her no more tree's. Every unusual tree i see i simply say i have been looking for one for years one day i'll get one day and low and behold she buys it , and its home we go . Reverse psychology i think they call it , if i sell 2 tree's i usually buy 4 more plants .

I think i had better quit giving you fella's bad advice before my wife finds out .

Hey Alpine! Think I missed this with the site breakdown a few weeks ago.

My Xmas present from the wife was a decent set of bonsai tools in a case....been using common garden tools up to this point.

I believe her statement when I kissed her was something like, 'Now I'm encouraging your diseased mind....what was I thinking!?' at least she was smiling when she said it...

Hi eddieperth , thats approval if ever i heard it . Now slowly introduced the plants and in no time you will be up to your obsession stage of the apprenticeship .

And she knows you've never got any money to be doing naughty things with. . I know in days gone passed, if I had any spare disposable cash it was off to the Nursery for more ................................... everything and anything Bonsai. I
(I don't have that type of cash anymore )
