Is there something wrong with the leaves?

It kind of looks like a mosaic virus infection, but I'm not experienced with this disease though

Hi Kirky
You wrap the roots around the rock and then wrap the whole lot in foil, make sure the foil isn't wider than the rock as you want the roots to stick out the bottom into the soil. Then you plant the rock into the soil as you would if you'd tied the roots with string, the soil presses the roots firmly against the rock and the advantage of foil, is that it can mold into the crevasses of the rock pushing the roots in . Here is a Japanese maple I did and a ficus natalensis

Thanks Peterb, you got a great result with the ROR. :tu: very impressed will have to give it a go myself and retire the string.
Cheers

Here's a link to the original post on Shibui Bonsai website. Maybe it will help.

Thanks for so much great feedback guys !

i did have the roots buried at the beginning although i think i uncovered them much too early haha oh well its one way to learn
i think another mistake i made was with the rock as it doesnt have any cracks or crevices for the roots to follow ?

im keen to try a few more of these and i will try both methods mentioned(string and foil) and compare my results

the tree was left uncared for for a little while so the leaves may have something wrong but it is beginning to grow new ones so im not too worried

Looks hungry to me. Might be time for a feed. In your area you can also remove the leaves now. And have a fresh frop in a few weeks.
Cheers
