Googling the term 'skyrocket juniper' returns results that state that the common name refers to J. scopulorum (Rocky Mountain Juniper), and occasionally the synonym of J. virginiana (Eastern Red Cedar, among other common names) appears. As stated above, my knowledge of Junipers is quite limited, so I'm only going on the info that is readily available. Of course, it is entirely possible that the treelings are something other than what is commonly called "Skyrocket Juniper".

Well, the sun has come up a few times since I posted, and now it's time for a photo...
I've taken 3 of the Junis, bare-rooted them and twisted them together. In order to protect the bark - as well as hopefully facilitating the fusing thereof - I have tightly wrapped the 'trunk' in regular grafting tape, followed by an even tighter go with self-adhesive silicone tape. It will be interesting to see what happens with the new growth, given the tree's natural tendency to grow bolt upright...

This little oddity was made by twisting 2 of the Junis together, as well as a thick bit of wire which followed the line of the trees. Once again, I wrapped tightly with grafting tape and silicone tape before wiring. It would seem that the wire along the lentgh of the trunk has allowed me to more easily achieve more vigorous bending than with the previous example.

At a guess, I'd probably spend an hour or two on each one. The really time consuming bit is the prep work (applying protective tape and wire) - the actual 'styling' takes no time at all (as may be evident from the results I've achieved so far ).

ya having too much fun pal! good for you. some great ideas there fly. i like the last 2, just not sure about the parrallel trunks. if you've got more try twisting the trunks around each other to fuse b4 / as your wiring.

Regarding the parallel trunking: I thought it could be nice to try to achieve the more 'ribbony' look that is often seen in Bonsai Junipers. Time will tell.

Hi FlyBri, I would really love to see an update on these junipers that you twisted up!
It has been a couple of years and the progression of their development will be very interesting!
