It's on again.
BSV regular monthly meeting falls on the Australia Day holiday. Monday January 27.
Of course the theme will be Natives.

We hope to see lots of you at the first regular meeting of the year,
what you can expect:

A large variety of Australian Natives will be on display,
Quentin will select trees from the display and discuss the species maintenance and the tree design.
There will be two demonstrations happening on the side which will be looked at at vaious stages (1) tea tree planting and (2) banksia planting

Come along on the Australia Day holiday evening the presentation begins at 8pm.

Your photos will of course be much appreciated.

I will try to get some in between other duties, I hope to see lots of Ausbonsai members come along and say hello tomorrow night

Nice tree and noting to discuss really
it Should be black as most deadwood on natives in the bush is black
I suppose the only discussion point is whether to burn or paint it?

Sorry folks I had camera failure last night, I missed most of the better trees but managed to download a few photos.
Hopefully someone got some pics?

I have some "before" photos of the demonstration trees (hopefully someone will supply the after photos)

Thanks both for posting. Gerard, that's a very fine Mel you posted yesterday - graceful all the way, and harmonious branch-bends all the way out - it's a text-book for how to shape natives. the open texture also suits it very well. Using the secondary trunk to fill in the back was also clever. The blackening looks like it will work well, if that's the way you went.

The Lepto group is also well assembled - it has a wildness but also harmony that's not easy to achieve, at least to me. It seems that the roots may have needed considerable "persuasion" to fit onto the rock - how close to bare-rooting them did you go? And it's hot - what's the aftercare?

(Are they your Leptos John? Your sideways Leptospermum at the NBPCA is very effective - I'm not sure we should allow it to go back!)

I think the Melaluca would look better with the shari black/dark grey

I would have used a blowtorch very gently, like the new pot. Also the new planting angle suits it better.
