Sno wrote:Hi Bohdi I think the change makes a more interesting dynamic tree , even though I appreciated the ' Ent ' . It's a really great trunk the last photo doesn't do it justice ,too much shadow hiding the narliness . It would be great to see this tree next to your A la naturale .
Cheers Craig
Its all about timing Sno, i was just about to post it up and there is your comment.
This is the other Querus i am playing with also a trunk of great character. This is the first styling of lower branching and only the mains. It has only ever been cut and grown as i was walking past it on my way to the Bonsai area. I will now develop it and next year maybe even a pot for it.

The A la naturale one has great taper while not as narly as the first it has the feel of a tree approaching its elder years . I like the contrast of style between the two . I think the second suits the A la naturale while the ' last chance oak ' would look amazing either style . You have got me thinking of what to do with some of mine . Thanks . Look forward to seeing it in its pot .

I'm assuming you mean Quercus Robur?
Approximately how old are these guys? I am just wondering how long I should just be letting them grow for.
Also, very informative thread, I will make sure to focus on branch development as well as trunk development.

Hi Jarad, yes, sorry about the spelling gliche

It's a damned good thing i am good looking

and can get away away with this sort of stuff. Both trees are collected Yamadori and old but have only been in training a short while. If you are going to ground grow them you will need to do root work on them every couple of years.

Very good thing.
Thanks Bodhi, they are currently living in orchid pots so I will look at ground growing somewhere.
