Haha. Don't feel bad. I like it. Photo as usual is two dimensional. Loks better in person; and still needs further wiring.

but in all seriousness, the thickness and straightness of the branch was very hard to overcome and i don't believe it's worth the effort of trying to bend it. by doing what you did in the middle of the night( i hope you were awake enough when you cut it), it introduced much better taper and it will have a much more interesting movement to the hanging branch in time.

I think the cut was very beneficial. Too long and strainght with Not much taper. Grow the new one about 1/2 the previous length, and concentrate on ramificationa nd taper and it should look nice.

Okay, I don't like cascades that much, but that last pic is great, you made the right decision.
