What are you going to carve with? Dremel? or something bigger?

great tree, I reckon you ripped Donnie off. you realise that you will have to set up approved OH & S scaffolding around this tree to get up there with all the equipment for carving. don't forget the hardhat & vests. good luck & will love to see some progress photos. dave.

thanks scott most will be done with the dremel and some drilling. round the back there are a couple of big conjoining chops that i will create a big hollow going in one side and coming out the other. leaving the live tissue in between. on this hollow i will use a drill saw, drilling and finish with the dremel. i will show those pics at a later stage.

easy killa thats what he asked and thats what i handed over gladly, no haggling on this one. now rembering it is only a great trunk with a load of work ahead of it, at this point. it will only be as good as the guy working it. don does fair buissness, great stock at great value. dave you might need the ladder and scaffolding but i will take the hard hat and vest. thanks for the well wishes you will undoubtably see the progressions from close up.

(Given my recent Bonsai spending habits, if I had spent $1000, I could have picked up 2500 Skyrocket Junipers to play with... I think we both know which choice is the better value. )

Looking forward to seeing it get it's privates out. I reckon Elms are the most inconsiderate in giving nice roots for us to play with. I am sure Don would have wipped this beauty into shape by now though. Nice one.

bretts ohh yeah i cant wait to be the one to take them out. bretts there is a whole host of challenges still left to tackle. the roots is just one of them. the thing is one by one i will get to them and turn this baby a gem! at the moment i have a dilemma with our current sketch that i feel this design is to stylistic for my style of work. i am of the school that deciduous should not be styled like pines. that is no disrespect to the current design which has its own story and merrit. just hard for me to swallow at this point in my developement. though it has still been a starting point and allowed me to see other possabilities sooner and easier. i need to get some pen to paper soon too.

after 4 hrs carving things are starting to lighten up, but a long way to go. at this point im refining the lines and shape but still keeping some live tissue through those stubs. if i can aestetically marry dead wood and live tissue to get more budding options. we will see.

reduced the apex to pop so i can find a suitable leader to style and continue the trees movement. after all this tree will be shown in the nude one day.(2015) therefor no use settiling for a quicker tree and leaving some of these undesirable aspects to be hidden behind foliage.

Interesting carving, is that just to let it dry out and not die back? Looking forwrd to finding out and seeing the direction you are going with this carving!

hey jezz not sure what you're asking me. is what just to let dry out and not die back. if i am to redesign this tree other than the sketch. i need alot more popping in the right places. then the question is can i still do the trunk lines justice. so slowly now i am re directing the sap flow (hopefully). skinning all the stubs ready for hollowing and detail, as well as stopping them from popping so we get more buds where we want them. hope ive answered your question.
