Tomorrow I plan on reducing the rootball on this guy significantly and sticking it into a bulb pan. Does MB/PJ Fig respond well to root pruning, like all other Ficus?

Yep. PJs love it.

This one still has me stumped :lost: Those little serrations in the leaves look like nothing I've seen before on a PJ or a MB. But again, I'm no pro.

Hi Ryan,

I would have to agree with those that have suggested Port Jackson, I too have a Fig that I was always led to believe it was a PJF but after cutting back to stump in an overhaul last year, the new foliage came out with those serrated style edges which made me question if it was infact a PJF. I posted up a question elsewhere and I was advised that it sometimes occurs in PJF's new growth after a cut back.

This is what the leaves were on mine at the time and they look to be similar to the ones on yours now, they have since reverted back to the normal PJF leaf.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

David

Serrated edged leaves can occur in almost any fig species after a hard cut back, defoliation etc. It seems like figs have the genetic potential to respond to hard times by putting out this same type of generic leaf. Given some growth the newer leaves will grow in the normal shape for this fig. ID should be easier with the
mature leaf shape.

David's thoughts on the leaves are identical to mine. Thanks gentlemen. I did have some pictures of the mature leaves that can be seen on the first page. Hopefully they help.

Thanks, My PJ fig responded to a hard cut back with some serrated leaves as well this year. I hadn't seen it before so was wondering why.
