I'm in California, so entering the heart of autumn now, and the berries are starting to look a little more cotoneaster like.

There was a cotoneaster bonsai at the Canberra bonsai show last weekend. I think it is probably the same species as Michael's hedge.
Maybe there's some hope for making decent bonsai from this species, even if it is cotoneaster
