I would twist and compress more if more of it was mine. Either add a second wire or go with a thicker size wire.

Yep I think if you want a larger tree, that bend is probably sufficient. Maybe add a little 3D bending too so you don't end with a 1 dimensional tree.
Elias, I think compression would lead more to a shohin
