Cracking the half century and slowly rising . Not a sound outside i think the birds might have fallen out of the tree's , its bloody hard to breath outside for me so the wildlife would certainly struggle . Time to consider ripping up the driveway and planting sun tuff grass or maybe synthetic lawn to ease the heat .

Hope all are safe around the country . Cheers Alpine
:o That is rediculous mate. Stick an egg on your drive and see how long it takes to cook  I'm going to stop complaining about the heat here, it suddenly doesn't feel that hot any more.

Josh.

Only a bearable 43.7 here in the Central highlands Alps. I might go in and put a jumper on. Lets all pray for no Bushfires guys, although Olinda has one at the moment. Is that where Shibui is :?:

You should put your location on the posts… I've always thought that Vic was cool/cold… I mean Melbourne isn't known for its heat unless its accompanied with blue and red flashing lights!
My sister and father are in Parkerville, but thankfully have been spared so far. I recall the Perth heat (not Baseball) being dry and hot wind! Being in Hedland, we have these temperatures from December to April but it's a lot more humid… There is a lot of consumption of … ( ) WATER to compensate (lol, my dogs have an A/C in their dog box) but then I work mostly outside (obviously not smart enough to get jobs inside!) and I get used to it. Funny thing is, when we get to Perth, we wear long pants and light jackets in summer! is the usual response from people around us …

Waddaya do? Start a post on how to beat the heat for Trees!?!

While it looks like grass it doesn't behave the same.
  • It can let water out of the soil (as it is porous) so it is better than concrete
 It gets bloody hot (it's plastic after all) so it's not as good as grass
:!: It will melt if the sun gets concentrated in any way!

Hi,
although these High Temps are trying times for some, it is a time to pay attention to our trees.
For beginners and newcomers to the Art especially and experienced growers alike ;) it is Very important to Take note on things such as Drying times of Pots, both overnight and daytime,
Trees which don't cope well with very high heat,eg; wilt easy, burn easy,
Alternative positions in yard which offer shade/ shelter from drying winds,
Alteration to watering schedules etc.

To watch and observe these thing This Summer will be the Start of a Better/more successful or even just Less stressful Summer Next year.
Things like thinking about altering a Certain trees growing medium to sustain moisture for longer or shorter periods as required.
Moving all or some trees to different positions when extreme heat arrives or maybe giving some trees more Sun if need be.
If precations are taken the chances of losing trees lessens greatly and our trees will love us for it.

Always be vigilant and try to plan ahead, keep cool.

Well, some of my trees have crispy leaves, even though some pots were still damp they were crispy on top. I think just dehydrated/to hot air temp. As most of my shade is out the front of the house and accessible from the street I had to do some else. So raided the linen closet and now have sheets everywhere in the back yard.

Should help a bit hopefully. I know ideal but better than nothing.
This is not what I needed for the Juni to recover in :palm: :shake:
Josh.

Hi thoglette ,mate synthetic lawn wouldn't look good in the driveway  nor would grass stand up to the traffic or the heat here .It would be much easier to put up more shade sails  .

Cheers Alpine

I'm at home 24/7 now due to my acute back problem and I often go out 3 to 5 times to water and keep my trees hydrated. This weather is searing hot with extremely high UV rays.
People who go to beaches to tan are :lost: :| lol

Looks like only one major casualty for me yesterday.
Was quite surprised as it was a Banksia Undata (Ex Dryandra Praemorsa).
Few crops of leaves had keeled over and I don't think they will return to life unfortunately.

Of all my tree's I wouldn't have expected this native to struggle like it clearly has and it was in a large hydrated pot as well.

You live and learn - I don't think this tree will completely die so next season (or hot spell) I'll just need to adjust.

This is more than I can say for the ferns, grass and box tree's that are in my garden.
