This tree got a candle cut today and a slight re-arrangement of the branches, took a little height off the top and looking better for it I think. Should get a decent idea of the final shape once the second flush comes through

Here's a couple of pics of this tree from some different angles (the pic above isn't the best).
I'd love to hear what everyone thinks is the best front, very much looking forward to potting this one up in winter

Pic number 1 looks best to me.
I wonder on potting if you could tilt a little more si it didn't leave the pot vertically?

Second this.
To the right. Would also improve the angle at which the branches on the right side of the tree leave the trunk.

I agree with the need to tilt it. No 2 with a tilt to the left does it for me.
Good start by the way

Looking good. Needs to go into a bonsai pot soon to start the maturation process.

Spent some of the morning yesterday removing the wire, pulling old needles and selecting new growth,

And then spent a rainy, yet very enjoyable morning re-wiring and doing the second styling on this tree

Next stop into a pot in the next few months

Hi Kerrin,
Keep up the good work. Black Pines are a challenge and it has to be a full commitment. As, I'm sure you are aware, they are a species that you have to keep working at, not like many other species that will grow back readily if they are cut back hard. You appear to have quite a number of branches that you will be able to move into the appropriate places for branch placement. Good work, keep at it mate.
Regards Ray

Nice work on the needle length reduction.
Love the transformation in just two years.

Cleaned this tree up after the summer growth and did some refinement work today,
Branches brought down, some of the branch ends shifted and hopefully balanced out for the spring growth

This is a great tree Kerrin.
Do yourself a favor and go back to the start of this thread again to see how far this has come.
