There are two main types of cut paste, and you wouldn't know they were cut paste unless you'd seen them before as there is no english written on the packaging.

Here are some pictures of the two varieties (I use the tube one currently as its easy to apply):

It doesn't have to be applied, but it is said that it helps to promote healing. Some people use it, some don't, comes down to what you prefer or think works better

Thanks Jason. I think my poor little pomegranate needs all the help it can get with the abuse it's been recieving at my hands. Will get some cut paste.

I was talking to my mother a moment ago and she said that my great grandmother would always plant a new plant or cutting along side a living plant to inspire it to thrive. She was such a green thumb.

Deb, your tree isn't dying.

Keep misting it though if you can - to stop moisture evaporation from the leaves.

What has happened is the roots are in shock and are not adequately taking up water. This is why we prefer not to repot when deciduous trees are in leaf.

Also, when you repotted, did you work the soil through the roots with a chopstick? This helps eliminate air pockets but also aids roots to establish faster.

If you have seasol, get a weak solution into the tree. I would even dunk the whole pot to the rim in a bucket of it overnight. All you need is to keep it going until it goes dormant - do not repot it again this year.

Having said all that, pomegranate is a hardy tree, so I wouldn't stress.

Ive just filled a spray bottle with water from our fish pond for a bit of organic nourishment. I did fill the gaps with a chopstick. Will tend it diligently and keep you posted.

I would think twice in future before advising a newbie to look for the nebari.

Thank you Neil that means a lot! I should have asked a few more questions perhaps before looking for the nebari. I've also looking at quite a few pomegranate trees since and most don't have much in the way of nebari... The benefit of hindsight

Look for some pomegranate nana...they always have perfect nebari...small leaf... nice flower, and are very cute.

Welcome to AusBonsai. I would like to encourage you to be careful what you put on the leaves at the moment. At the base of the leaves are the new buds. I would hate to see them die. At this stage I wouldn't use the fish pond water. At this stage of the life of this tree I would do the following. Ken had mentioned about feeding the tree with Seasol. When you give it a drink of Seasol, mix up a batch of Seasol at the 25ml per 9 litre mix. Water the tree then use a small watering can and water over the foliage and down into the soil with the Seasol. Never mix more Seasol than you are going to use. You need to make a new batch up each time.

Hi Deb,
I finally got around to looking at your thread again. The following is just a suggestion. Let the tree grow until Spring then do a ground layer. That would get rid of the reverse taper and start a new root system for you. The top red line would be where the new roots would grow. The bottom red line is just an indicator where the second cut would be for the layer.
