to get quince to flower you have to allow new growth. quince flower on last years growth and if healthy will flower on fresh growth at the end of summer. cut back wuince hard after flowering in early spring. allow to grow till mid summer then prune to shape. it will flower late winter, early spring the following year on the current years growth

Just a final update for now: repotted and trimmed. I hope that leaving the leaders/branches long & leafy will retard the appearance of suckers this time around - every other year I have chopped back beyond the foliage, and the suckers have been prolific. I am slowly bringing the roots up to expose the man-made nebari, and next year I hope to bring it up quite dramatically.

It doesn't look like much at the moment, but I have plenty of nodes to choose from, and will be chopping all the leaders back come late-Summer. I might even trim back after the first flush of growth, just to see if that affects internodal length. (Thanks for the info, Astro!)

It's probably about time I changed the title of this thread to "Small Flowering Quince"...
This year I promise to so some pruning/shaping during the warmer months, and not just let the thing grow wild...

it's great to see the long term story about the developement of this tree Flybri, I like many others have plenty of "pre-bonsai" that we hope will one day make a tree... seeing the work and time this has taken you, gives us hope for our future trees... (my flowering quinces were turned into garden plants years ago.. although I periodicaly go in and chop it back to one trunk to thicken? that trunk... lol

Looking at my "progress" with this tree, I reckon I could have cut it down to this point at the first repot, and saved myself a lot of time.

Here's another pic from a slightly different angle (complete with empty beer for scale ). As I mentioned earlier, I should probably consider changing the title of this thread, as the Quince is far from large now.
It is still suckering, but this year I hope to keep on top by constantly pruning off any growth that I don't want. As for a 'finished' height: I quite like the silhouette as it stands, so as I introduce better ramification, I will likely aim for a height less than 1.5 times the current height. If I can keep it even lower again, I should be happy.

Now to get some flowers on the thing...
