With a lot of thought in future styles i removed the excess foliage right back to the first set of leaves /buds .This little exercise is going to test Willow water as a root stimulant on these oversize cuttings

Hope they do , i'll be throwing every thing at them to ensure they get the best chance . For a $1.40 each it no big deal ,the main trunk has more new growth powering on ,good old tomatoe starter hope i dont burn the base out .Cheers

Hi Alpineart,

Sometimes I actually think, we are the bonsai enthusiasts, should be admired the greeny people :)

I cannot describe how I feel seeing the row of layerings that you have from this single maple -- it is hard to be any "greenier" than that :)

This type acer palmatum seem a lot more responsive and much more robust than trident maples sometimes when it comes to air layering.

I love seeing positive results such as these. So thank you for the post Alpineart :)

Best regards.

Hi Daveit , its been a worthwhile project , that's for sure .I have numerous large trunk trainers and a massive trunk Maple to spend the rest of my days playing with .Now i need some huge pots to put them in .This trunk will require a pot around 600mm x 500mm x 200mm .Its a big ask so i may very well have to make a custom pot or tray for it myself . Looking forward to seeing some new shoots appear lower down , with plenty of roots it should sprout well .Cheers Alpine

Love the result of this one Alpine :tu:
I might have planted with a little more tilt to the left, but that really depends on your planned future for it

alpineart, how has this little project coming along? I'd pay more than $1.40 a pop for some of those 12 layerings :D If only I had an excavator :palm:

Hi Teamak , the main trunk is growing well and ready for a trim . I think 8-9 layers made the grade the rest died . All in all its a good result . I have plenty of big trunks to play with but short on time so they can grow on for another year . I will post some pics soon .

Cheers Alpineart
