For me, the trunk is strong, and the foliage is just there to dress it. The "apex" at the base is too unrelated to anything else, I would suggest that it goes, without even an upward facing jinn. The outer "apex" that points up also doesn't work for me, because the trunk is so strongly downward. Maybe eliminate all upward-growing foliage in the head, and have lines that continue downwards? Grant's thought to increase the angle also plays well with that.

There's a very fine tree in there, whatever you choose to do. Except maybe chopping the whole trunk off - that's a bit perverse even for me.

Thanks for posting,

Gavin

grants more upright suggestion, if the nebari allows , looks good---hard to imagine there not being good nebari on the left under the soil--branching also looks good for literati or slanting style althought the trunk could have more taper

Not quite that much; the trunk would hit the side of the pot where it leaves the ground and again further down.

About another 15 to 20 degrees back again; but the final test would be to get the pot first and fit it to its best advantage.

Of course this is all just hypothetical; its your tree and your decision. The important thing will be the execution of the new angle/apex when you decide which way to go.

Nice tree. Got any more for sale?

It will be interesting to see what roots are on this tree now. There are a couple of thick roots on the surface opposite the trunk. Hiro's suggestion was to remove if possible to get the tree into the middle of the pot. They would also need to be removed to allow a more vertical drop so we will have to see whether there are enough other roots to allow either or both options.

Sorry Grant, Each member only got 2 of these at the time. Both of mine are keepers at the moment and probably none of the others still alive????
I have a very few small seedlings courtesy of Scott and a few more cuttings struck from them but nothing of any note. I'm trying to grow some more but that will take some time.
