I wouldn't be too hopeful on this one, but if it does survive, it'll be a ripper treeman :tu:

It's budding well. Just as normal. Most of the wood removed (90%?) was rotted and soft. I cut into very little live wood...and that could be the difference. I would never attempt this with a normal healthy tree. This summer will be the real test, and as someone mentioned, it may still dry out from the inside. It will be kept well shaded when the weather dries out/heats up.
