Hi Folks,
Update on the Casuarina seeds.
I have started another tray of seeds. My neighbor is the groundsman for a large Soccer complex, and he is growing two types of Casuarina. He gathered up some pods for me of the smaller more condensed variety. When I can get a chance I am going over to the fields to take some photos of the two types of trees. The following will show the difference in the size of the pods and seeds.

What is your plan for separating them? I'd guess that they'll have intertwined roots being that close together... would you pick out the one you like and kill the others or risk loosing the one you like by separating them?

Or is there a third option?

It is good fun to grow from seed.
You can separate them virtually whenever you want until the roots get tangled so much that you cannot ( up o a few months I guess).
When I did mine i waited a few months, then split some out into single pots and others I kept as forest or clumps.

Hi Ken,
I really enjoy watching the seeds develop. It's good fun. I will wait till some time in January and look at starting to pot them. The first lot of seeds are already showing roots through the bottom of the tray. I'll be doing a similar thing. I'll plant some out as individuals, some as clumps of say 3-5 trees and some in larger pots to develop for forests.

Sorry for not answering you sooner. I missed your post. When ready to remove, I will soak the tray in a tub of Seasol, that makes it much easier to separate them. I used the same method for planting Trident Maple seeds. They worked very well. Tridnet Maple seeds

Hi Elmar,
I took the seed trays to the School of Bonsai last week. I potted up some for the students who wanted them. I will take some photos soon and show you how they are going.
