You do it now ish sit it in a humid enviro with moist but not wet substrate. And yup especially if it has a few but not to many leaves on it. But you want the tree healthy first and foremost so its strong enough to survive. Check out some of the feeds on here about growing big fat gigs fast.

3- November 2015: Happy, Healthier and on the mends (4 new leaves since taking him home)




Still a long way to go before he returns to his former glory, but what a rough year this little guy has had. Hopefully I can keep him in my care and not have to return him to the office!

Best to put it in a bigger pot and let the roots have some room to move. Will respond with much better growth

I was going to wait until January to repot, per previous posts ... do you think full repot now? Or just slip pot?

Just noticed the tree/soil are little loose in the pot, thinking I'll repot ... not sure if I should go full or just slip pot. Do you guys think it's healthy enough to repot?

It looks healthy enough to do a full repot. Most people wait till December/January for best results as Figs like heat and water it gets them started quickly. If you don't want to wait till then you can do it now its warm enough. I did a Willow leaf Fig in July. German Shepherd knocked it over rolled down driveway basically it was bare rooted. I put it back in the black plastic pot sat it on the concrete drive way, gave it Mums old sign of the cross blessing and waited till summer. It sulked, lost all its leaves until December and then burst out December/January. If a Willow Leaf Ficus can survive being bare rooted in Melbourne in July youve got no problem with your one. If you get anymore 44 deg days up there just put in semi shade till its established otherwise repot, Seasol and enjoy.

I gave my Benji a trim (all branches down to 1-2 leaves) around 6 weeks ago and repotted it around a month ago now. I did it because it seemed to be growing far too slowly, I put it down to the soil it came in holding far too much water and not drying out.

I'm in Melbourne by the way.

I gave it a hard root prune and placed it in my garage (has a couple of perspex panels to let a little bit of natural heat/light in). I also placed a plastic bag over it to help with humidity.

It's since pushed new growth/buds and never lost a leaf I'd say if people are going fine with it in Melbourne then Sydney should be right. Is it a possibility you just need to tie it in until it grows more roots to stabilize itself?

Does it need a repot? If you want to slip it into some fresh soil I'd say go for it, but unless it's going to be pot bound soon there isn't really a reason to root prune.

Thinking it needs a repot as the soil seems to move as one, so assume it's more roots than soil, is that wrong?

I would repot, wire it in, fresh soil. You wont harm it in any way, it can only get better with a fresh start.
