Haha, indeed that is what I meant Shibui. I know some trees aren't suitable for jin and was curious as to whether I could do it with this. I guess my main question was not so much whether I should take it off, but how much to take off. Where these grow naturally along rivers they get smashed during floods so a great many of the ones I see growing wild feature dead wood. My waterswept callistemon has had parts converted to jin and shari to reflect that aspect of life in the river.
