Hey Kerrin. Thanks for the input. I can't make it to Club meetings, have never done lessons, only been to 1 workshop which was on natives and I don't have anyone close by that I'm aware of to talk to so this forum and other reading is where I learn everything from. It was actually your recent posting of your Junipers that inspired me to search one out at the market.

The guts to jump in and do what I did came pretty much as soon as I did the sketches. I was hesitant to remove years of growth from the top area until I looked at the sketches and sketch 2 just looked boring. I would have had more smaller branches to play with and had a more "finished" bonsai, but in the end all those years of growth have given me a wonderful jin. Just need quite a few more to make the foliage catch up.

The main separation is where the rubber ends in the junction leading to what is now the upper trunk. This branch was twisted and pulled up quite a lot.

As for the wiring, straight after I posted I went out and wired the little branch coming from the rubber and adjusted the top to have more movement. The foliage that is left is fairly dense and I wanted to leave plenty on to assist in its recovery and thought to wire out the finer stuff once I know its growing strong again. The larger branch coming from lower down and a branch at the back that you can see the foliage of just poking over the pot I was think of making more jin but have left the foliage on these to also help with recovery. As you would be able to see from the first photo I have removed a lot of foliage and was concerned that any more may just tip it over the edge.

After the last photo and with your comments in mind I have compressed the top some more and done a little more wiring. I've also lime sulphured the Jin. So far it's doing well with some back budding and growth.

My plan is to repot in spring into fresh and open mix so I can feed it well through the growing season and let it grow unhindered. Then next autumn I will wire out all the branches to the tips.

I also want to start a shari once I get the wire and rubber off too. Any idea how long I'll need to leave it on for?
