So great that we got to see him work!

I took thousands of photos but I've bragged enough and don't want to clog the forum.

I cant recommend the tour highly enough. Yoshi is such a great guy and his wife made us a beautiful lunch at his restaurant.

If you are only in Japan for a short time and don't want to spend too much money I cant recommend Kobayashis place enough. It costs about 15 dollars with a cup of tea and as I said earlier its honesty the nicest place I've ever been. Even people who don't appreciate Bonsai will enjoy this place. Its amazing what he has accomplished in one generation. A must see on the eastern side of Tokyo!

Thanks again to the ppl on here that recommended everything. Ill never forget this day.........

You owe Mrs IB soooooo much... Excellent day, well related. Thanks for the photos. While we have bonsai of a high standard, we can't compete with 800 years of tradition - no harm in saying so. All the same, our Eucalypt bonsai are better than theirs, I guess.

I think the bug has bitten - good luck.

Great run down. I'm glad you went for the tour, I knew you wouldnt regret it! I agree, Kobayashi's place is pretty mind blowing. Funnily enough, I also got interviewed by a Japanese TV crew whilst I was there, I'm wondering if it was related?

Particularly like the way the spreading nebari is well developed but not ridiculous in size unlike many other we see.

She used it to her advantage and ended up spending about 500 on beauty products in Seoul so were definitely square!

Yeah the young apprentice Jin who spoke great english showed us 3 that he said were worth 1 mill. I guess its the old thing of its worth whatever someone is willing to pay but i took it as Kobayashi wouldn't be letting go of these three for under a million a piece. I actually don't even know how you would put a price on some of the trees.... I guess they were his best?

Jin was very loose with the financial info. It was like it was part of the tour haha...... He told us that the whole place cost about 10 million to set up and if you go back and look at that picture I posted with the small pots in the cabinet on the blue fabric. The tiny pot on the bottom front row second from the right was worth 90K! They were all very very old Chinese pots......

Haha yeah it shed all of its leaves toward the end of the trip!

I agree with the maple.

Probably the only bad thing about the day (if you can count t as a bad thing) was that it was quite hard to stand back and appreciate individual trees. There was so many it became almost a haze. It would be like gong to an art gallery and the walls being covered completely with art. It almost all became one sometimes. A real first world problem though.....

Wow.... when was that?

In February - basically told them the same thing - that we don't have anything like this back in Australia - as in the age of the trees and the numbers of years in training!
