Hi John,
Wow what a great tree showing natural character & refined artistic styling. This is a bonsai rather than a twig on a rock or in a pot.
Hope to catch up at the symposium
Cindy
Cindy, are you saying my tree is a "twig on a rock" :lost: :palm: :lost:

Anyway it will be a great weekend and a great chance to meet some Ausbonsai members to. Great to see support coming from far and wide.

One of my trees going to the exhibitions.
I thought this tree and rock looked familiar, will you be updating your progression thread?

Yes, in my opinion it is not an exhibition tree, to me it is a tree just starting on its journey to becoming a bonsai. It shows natural character thought it's trunk line but it requires more work on development & refinement of it's branches.

To me an exhibition bonsai shows the natural character to the species & artistic styling of the tree which is complemented by the pot/slab/rock that it grows in/on. A tree in a bonsai pot or on a slab/rock does not make a bonsai.

Josh this is my honest opinion & you asked me for it. I'm sorry if it's not the reply you expected but I'm not the sort of person that says something is beautiful when it is not.

Hope you have a good weekend at the symposium
Cindy

Great symposium and great show.

I hope someone posts some pics. Lots of trees I haven't seen before as well.

Congratulations to The organisers.

I'll be down with the other half tomorrow, luckily managed to get a shift change last minute to a later shift. How many trees will be there? I have no idea how much time I'll have to set aside.

There's 50 odd exhibits for you to check out, all are top notch and worth a second look... Very impressive and well worth a trip. Had a great day at the Symposium today, look forward to tomorrow. I have pics but not able to upload until tomorrow, :o sorry people!

There's a decent cafe nearby if that helps with staying at the exhibit longer....? Thought I'd throw that in just in case! Enjoy, it's great!

Unfortunately I was only there for a short time as on my way home from holidays. I saw lots of beautiful trees, but I would have liked to see some more smaller exhibits. I think when you are trying to get the general public interested in the art of bonsai you need to show them what they can achieve in their own home that doesn't require a lot of space. Once people are hooked they will naturally expand their collections but you don't want to scare them off with to many huge two man trees. Image

Was hoping someone with a real camera would post photos as the phone doesn't do them justice but a bit of a teaser for you.
