We have very little information indeed about Hakeas as bonsai, but the suggestion is that they'll behave a bit like Acacias - fairly robust, don't bare-root, unlikely to shoot back into old wood, possibly tricky to dig from the wild. Low-phosphorus ferts until you find out what they'll tolerate, good drainage in the mix. Better from seed that cutting, but it's all yours to find out and tell us! You're a first on this forum from that area, I think.

Go hard, go crazy!
We've all learned stuff by stuffing up, figuring it out as we go along. Your environment is unique on this forum and the variety of natives you have to play with is also unusual. Grow stuff, play with it, get what you can with seeds, tube stock, small stuff, and learn how they behave.

Ok, so went to the Local Nursery and spoke to the horticulturalist and he's identified it as Hakea Lorea subspecies Lorea.
Apparently they grow quite easy from seeds (here anyway) and he's just started up some seedlings a couple of weeks ago (I think he said 3-4?!?)...
Didn't at first recognise them, but found one or two that were more advanced than the others which had the same shaped leaves as the one I saw above.
Told him that I might need to knock-off a couple of his seedlings... He didn't react.

Yeah, with the corky bark and the pendulous growth, if they take to bonsai life I'd say you're onto a winner. Nice. Give us an update in about 5 years.

Found one in flower: (flower is mainly Yellow with white stamen)- sorry best my phone would do...
