Hi mate.

I will stick with euphorbia as my guess but unsure which one. They can be bigger plants. I thi k poinsettia are a type of euphorbia which grow into a very large shrub.

A final end note on this bush. I have been told today that the council have dug the Euphorbia out
Hopefully, they'll put a nice native in its place.

I have approached the local council here at home and they advised me on the trees they plant on the nature strips , shopping centres. Maybe worth a shot to ask what they plant in that specific area? Helps down here in bayside melbourne

I wondered about that, then thought of the telephone merry-go-round I would be on in order to find someone who knows what goes in on that suburb. Brisbane council is huge - it covers the entire Brisbane region, unlike Melbourne where I understand there are separate regional councils.
Where the Euphorbia was, they have planted quite a large Brachychiton of some type, so are obviously aiming for a shade tree.
