Hey Kez
well done! that is some fantastic work you have put into this tree!
A question tho, in regards to future potting and changing the planting angle, how do you approach that? in stages? or comb out all roots on that left hand side so they run horizontally? I have a tress that are in similar situations that this with thick roots that would need to be removed to allow for such a change in planting angle.
cheers
Matt

Got all the carving done up to a point that I am happy with, reduced some areas and tried to create some texture and shadow, this is my first time carving and it was certainly a learning experience, as such I have probably been a bit conservative but I think that is better than taking too much off.
I also got a couple of coats of lime sulphur on which I am very happy about as the deadwood had started to become a bit unsightly in the time between the first bit of styling back when I began this tree and when I got to work this time around.
Here's the deadwood at the moment

And the whole tree again

Now all I have to do is get it into a pot

If you don't mind me asking. What does one expect to pay for nursery stock such as this one with great trunk?

Nice work.
Do you have to wet the deadwood before apply lime sulphur?

Thanks folks,
Smalltrees,
I suppose the biggest factor is being able to find this kind of stock in the first place, I only know of 1 nursery within about 300km of me in any direction that has junipers this big and old. I can't speak for the Vic or Qld nurseries but the nursery I got this from might even be the only place in the country where you can get stuff like this. This particular tree was $800 and I think thats cheap but I appreciate thats still a lot of money.
Vtbao,
It is supposed to help the wood absorb the lime sulphur if the wood is damp but I have done it dry also and it is fine

There have been a couple of things about this tree I have never been able to get right, somewhat a balancing act between right and left and front to back depth, the deadwood, and the apex always seemed to collapse to the left.....
I toyed a number of times with altering the front, and have made some small adjustments here and there but never been able to fit all the pieces into this puzzle quite how I wanted
so today I bit the bullet and decided on a change of front and some slight tweaking
IMG_4687 (1024x683).jpg
I believe the new front balances the tree better, and while there is a undeniable loss in the movement in the trunk, it was always just a long curve and not super interesting anyway to my eye. I also feel like I have gained substantial movement in the deadwood and a fantastic contrast between live and dead which was also lacking.
Anyway opinions on the change are most welcome, I would be glad to know what others think
