Thanks for the feedback everyone. Good to know nothing to worry about.

Plant in the ground? Because it is an oak?

Why so Treeman,

I had one that managed to be the runner up in the NBPCA competition. In time they do make good Bonsai.

Peter

I don't know, I just think they are more trouble that they're worth. I had one going along for a while but just as I had a nice branch starting to develop it fell off. Same with gum trees. There are so many easier (and better) things to try.
It may be different with evergreen oaks or other species...not sure. But I won't bother anymore.

The plot thickens ... saw two baby wasps hovering about and landing ob the oak a bit yesterday. Could this "insect damage" be wasps?

Can upload pics/video if anyone is interested?

Throw up a photo.

I recently had grasshoppers munching on some leaves.

theyre not wasps. i think they are native bees or something. They seem to cutout bits of the leaves in an almost circular fashion. they seem to be harmless, i see them a lot in my garden.

They look like hoverflies to me :) They aren't anything to worry about, in fact I beleive they are beneficial as their larvae will each bad bugs like aphids :) Keep them around :tu2:

Hoverflies? Ah, good to know, thanks!

I did have baby/bonsai mantis once and for a second though my oak is shrinking everything, hahaha.
