If only all those evergreens that we know and love in bonsai had somehow found there way to Australia before we broke off and floated down south and were sitting there waiting for us. Heck, it would have been ok if the Brits had some forethought and sent a bunch out into the wilds with the convicts.

Nah, that's no excuse. There are plenty of prize winning trees at international world class exhibits that aren't yamadori and were grown and trained specifically for bonsai.

I'm with Andrew on this one, and am a little disappointed there weren't any prizes awarded to a variety of species, but judges can never please everyone, and the trees awarded are sure worthy of the awards.

Is anyone contemplating trying their trees out for the Sydney cup in 2019?

I hope it happens, but I think its far from a definite yet?

An excerpt from the Bonsai Herald FB page article on the show:
Confusion about the next Cup was in the air. It seems the Neil's plan to take the Cup to Sydney, Australia next. This is entirely confusing to me, as I thought the Artisans Cup was all about embracing American bonsai. That is at least how it has been marketed from what I've seen. In my opinion, the Cup would greatly benefit from being held in the US every few years, and not taking it abroad.

Whoever wrote that has their jimmies firmly rustled, that's speculation at best.
We’re committed to bringing Bonsai the global recognition it deserves. We’re taking The Artisans Cup international in 2020 with an exhibition in Sydney, Australia.
