This tree was one of the chuckouts. A 10 year old cherry blossom (by my amateurish ring count) which was rootbound. Out of the pot, this tree was just a pole as you can see...But after a couple of hrs of bare rooting in my garage (which is what I secretly do on a saturday night after the wife has gone to bed!), this is what I discover under the soil.. Let me know what you think. Also any special comments on Cherry care would be great.

I still don't know what you mean by you statement " Never trust a nurseryman". You might have to rephrase that. In the 24 years as a nurseryman I have been very honest with my customers. There are a few nurseryman using this Forum so be carefull. :D I know a lot of general nurseries do chop the trees that they throw out. After the barerooted season some will burn the left over stock for the same reason. They don't want someone else making a quick buck out of it.
The Prunus you have is most likely Prunus avium as that is used often as the understock. I'm sure you will be able to turn it into something special.

Cheers,

Chris.

PS. By the way no hard feelings about your statement. :)

Hey Chris,
No, it was not derogatory at all. I was trying to say that I got a lot more than I expected. I thought I had a straight pole, but when I took back the soil I found a nice big tapering trunk.

Dont worry mate... I have never met with a bad nurseryman in my life.
