It might be the wrong picture, but it is a genuine Japanese Tanuki. Brought back from Japan.

I agree Paddles but, you know some people are really pedantic. We are, after all, creating an illusion. It always interests me to listen to the differing opinions of people. I love the rich tapestry of human beings

Of course it is bonsai, a pretty nice one too. Chose the front so that we can see more of the main trunk of the living tree.
Encourage the foliage by less pruning. A contrast between the dead wood and a thriving tree will have a better impact on the viewers.

Can't see any connection or anything in common of Pup's figurine with your tree, though. But it was from "JAPAN" and may be from Kimura himself, it must be a masterpiece.

Who knows what goes on in the mind of the mysterious Pup.

Some parts of yours reminded me of his work. The spooky feeling I get when looking at some of the braches coming out of the holes.

I have seen many of Nick lenses over the years and I have to wonder about him sometimes Some really Weird stuff he does produce

Holy Crow K.C hope i am not getting wierd. As an aside i have been eyeing of this pyracantha for a while and today i pulled up and asked the lady if i could dig it. She said to me... would you ..that would be lovely . I have been wanting to get rid of that for years. if you dont ask you dont get

What I was sayin is if you say what it is. It is acceptable as Bonsai. We have a Tanuki in the National Collection!
. The Tanuki bear or badger ornament was not given to me it was given to Dan Barton by Peter Chan.

Allow me to translate. Pup's statue is actually of a tanuki. He is a little badger/racoon type beast who has a reputation for being a cunning master of disguise. Apparently that is the origin of the term tanuki, as used for a bonsai that isn't what it seems to be.

Thank you for that eloquent translation Pasquale, that is exactly what I was trying to convey to the people that read this thread.

i'm glad I'm not the only one who does that, went for a tour of an old ladies garden today.... heaps of self seeded prunus (As well as a few quince, and other fruit type trees) that she would just love it if I came back next winter and thinned them out....
