Some really good and interesting work that you are doing. Keep it up. Maybe watch the amount you bring the rim in so repotting isn't too much of a trial. Other than that... good going.

Lee Pat made a post a while back asking wether people minded the pots that come in at the top due to the repotting trouble. I think most people stated it wasn't an issue for them. It isn't for me anyway. I have lost the link now but there was a great article that gave the best detailed information on styles of pots to suit trees. It went into great detail not just about the overall shape but the curve of the out side the rim and the feet. I will have another go at looking for it I wish I had printed it out.
One of the things I remember is if the outer curve of the pot is towards the bottom it suits a heavy set tree as if the wieght is pushing the bottom out a lighter set tree goes better in a pot that splays out at the top or a curve higher than centre. There are many other things that go into the story and just like bonsai you have to be carefull not to have a ipod in a western and spoil the effect. I am more concerned about working on this than wether it takes a few extra minutes to get a tree out of a pot.
I would be happy to listen to opinions on this but that is mine.

in robert stevens vision of my soul, there is a sweet setting in broken pots, my mate just got a handful of broken pots and i wanna give settings in broken pieces of pots together in different arrangements...

and im fine with the overhang too but im writing that off as personal preference

Hi Bretts. I m interested as to what kiln you are using. they look gas fired but i know you can get some interesting effects from wood fired kilns. We have both at our place and my wife is a potter, problem is she is also a nurse practitioner and the latter pays a whole lot better. But we are gonna do pots one of these days. Good on you for getting into it and having a go. I also want to learn potting.

Just wonderful, Brett i dont think any of your pots are a let down. You can always send them my way.Ill definately have use for them.You wouldnt beleive only 13months ago i gave away my kiln,& at that time i said ill find a use for it once its gone. Boy was i right, i had that thing for 7 years and didnt use it. Wish i had it now.Mate you do such a great Job you have inspired me, & this time i cannot do anything about it, just not fair. Hey, i have a birthday comin up,some of those pots are lookin re,,,a,l good now. Cheers!

Thats a bugger about giving the kiln away Petra but if you make a few pots I should be able to get them fired for you. Our clubs is a gas fired kiln in need of some work Bodi. We got a grant from the local goverment and that will be used to seal up the insultaion around the door better.

Elias I am happy to take some orders if you have something specific in mind. It will be great practice at getting a desired result. As long as you don't hold your breath. My work goes in a comunal kiln that I have little control when it is fired( a pot can be almost dry and miss a fireing) and then mishaps but I am keen to work to an order if you don't mind waiting.
If it is an order for the shop you are after you will be first on the list if I get a group of export quality pots that I am happy to sell.
I don't seem to have the time at the moment but spring work is almost over. I am keen to get some long sessions in with a better production line. I would be able to do my own firing if I filled the kiln.

This is a nice selection of pots that you have posted.

From the looks of things, you still have a few issues to work out with your ovals. Nonetheless, you have made great progress and I expect the next batch of pots will be even better.

One question for you, how are you applying your glazes?

Your tutorial has put me leaps and bounds ahead of where I was heading. Any Tips on the Ovals would be greatly appreciated.

I have been applying the glazes by spraying paint brush and also sponge. I believe you guys where chatting about avoiding the obviousness when using brushes but I find I prefer this method at the moment. The sprayer tends to get out of control on me and makes so much more mess to clean up after.
I did give it some thought while painting it on this time(all of these where painted) and was a little concerned when I saw the first oval out of the kiln but I kinda like the effect I ended up with.
