What I have heard about peaches is their growth is hard to control. To get flowers you have to let them extend and then they are well and truly out of shape as bonsai. So you have a shaggy tree in a pot and if you try to keep it in line then you don't get the flowers. If you can get good stock with interesting trunks it is worth giving it a go but I get the feeling peaches are a lot of hard work when other trees could be equally or more rewarding. But you never know until you try and if you are not losing anything by it [but time and patience] why not!!

Ok guys, I went there today. It's was harder than I thought. I started out with a nice big one and failed miserably and decided that I will come back with some helping hands next week. Mean while I have dug up a few small one that was half rotted but there are new grow from the bark. The good new is the owner said to me that the rootstock is some sort of flowering peach with a lot of double pink flowers and very small fruits that is good for nothing. To me that is GOOD.
So here are some photos

Goodonya KVan!
It's hard to tell from some of the photos, but it looks like a lot of these trees have really nicely aged trunks. Those last 2 photos are great, and b & d look to have good potential too! I'd go so far as to say that I'm jealous.
Thanks for sharing, and please keep us posted.
Fly.

I have 3 peach trees, one in a bonsai pot with poor style but about 20 years old. Another with a very striaght trunk about 50cms tall. Third is in poly box and the trunk is about 20 - 25 cms across and 150cms tall. Dug from a garden 6 years ago. It was 3 metres tall. I cut branches to last leaf and about half the roots then seasoled, then left for two months with heavy watering each week. It needs lots of carving but is in fruit and flower and I do not have the time. Maybe at club workshop something will happen.
If you need help with a dig I will be available.
Good luck.

Thank you for sharing your experience Bruce. The collected peaches are now in buckets of vit B1 + Seasol. All the plants on the farm are around 6cm to 20cm thick and main trunks are only 6cm to less than 30cm tall. I guess that only the root-stocks remained and grafted parts died out. Thank you also for offering help but in the mean time I have asked my uncles, who are quite interested in these to come along next time. There are more than enough for us here so I don't mind letting you having some off them (or even the rest of them if you want). If you live near Durack, 4077 just PM me your number and I'll keep you updated.
Cheers,
DK

I never thought that those would be good when I dug them. I will probably get some more of them next time as it is a lot easier to dig them up and there are probably still quite a few of rotted trunks like those. Will keep updated with the progress of those two. And Jamie, I got vit B1 this time. Bought a 100 of 250mg tablets this after noon for $13 from Discount warehouse drug store. Hope that it helps.

thats the way mate, im still trying to find it in my books but i am pretty sure it was craig coussins that references B1 solutions as a great help in soaking stumps that have been freshly dug. i still cant remember where i heard the vegemite trick but i cant see why that wouldnt work either
hope it helps for ya too mate

Careful with the vegimite, I found plants dont like the salt, and those I used the 'mite on are no more.

Yes, the salt can be a worry. Anyway, I now have enough B1 to use for the whole year or two

Just put these plant in grow baskets. It's probably not the right time to dig these like someone mentioned earlier so I'm not sure about the survival rate. Hope that they are ok - finger crossed!
