Yes and we can now say it is a Syzgium if you look at the leaves. I am pleased with that, as they are better than Acmena, for reduction and refinement.
This was started in October so it must qualify for new stock and I have two and a half months to get it in shape!.

Where is this one upto now Pup

As of 0900 this morning 14Th march this is the tree, needs a clean up but I think it is getting along nicely. For those that do not read the start of a thread when there are more than one page. I thought I would remind you this was a root stump in October 2009.

VERY nice pup, simular to a root stump on a chinese elm shohin im developing at the moment. great work and again what can be achieved in a short time with the right techniques.

Hi Pup , that looks like the big mother in my back yard , are you sure you didn't shrink it down . Very very nice indeed.I look forward to removing mine and establishing a canopy like this one , i guess a big tree will take many more years to develop than a shohin or is this smaller than that Thanks for the update .

This one is Shohin, it measures 20cm high and is 8cm at the base. Good trunk ratio to height.

Great progress pup, this is one of those presentable shohin in 3 years trees that I keep rabbitting on about, there would be easily 20 or more species of native that this would apply to, as well as dozens or exotics, most available as inexpensive nursery stock. Purists that would take another 5 to 10 years to refine something like this tree, could end up with something approaching shohin found overseas.

I agree it is when you look at the right stock with the right approach. Paying $30-00 for something with a bit of girth to the trunk for Shohin. Or one of your larger trees that is not doing what you want.

As I am getting up there in the years, I now have less ability to move and work on larger trees. So they get looked at for air layers. You can end up with two trees, that are worthy of the show bench inside of 5 years.

That is looking great Pup, thanks for the update. I looked at the last pic posted and that was just over a year ago. You are obviously doing a great job with it.
My only thought on improvement is can you still get a little movement into the new leader

I have missed this but a great transformation Pup. I am wondering what the hole is from? Is it from the carving you had to do and you have created a hollowed out look?

You are right Bohdi, it needed something to show some interest as the base is rather bland. So I had to tell a story for the stump

Brett, the foliage will come more to the front, it had movement put in at the begining but has grown out as the trunk thickened up.

Which is why you should put a lot of accentuated curves in whips when you first start them.
