From what I've read if you want them to flower, let them dry out a day or two. Just don't let them get too wilty or they'll throw their leaves off.

Cheers Dennis, thanks so much! I'll be interested to see if it survives our non-winter here in Brisbane, let alone colour up, but I'll take what I can get.Your pear is not a Manchurian pear and is definitely a Bradford Pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘Bradford’ )
