From what I've read if you want them to flower, let them dry out a day or two. Just don't let them get too wilty or they'll throw their leaves off.

Hi NMel

Your pear is not a Manchurian pear and is definitely a Bradford Pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘Bradford’ ). Overall a much better pear to work with. Its autumn colour can be very spectacular! Develops an excellent trunk and bark. Its one disadvantage is that the branches can be very brittle breaking off at the point where they join the trunk. However this can be managed with careful wiring and handling.

I have had one for over 20 years and it is one of my favorite trees.

Cheers Dennis, thanks so much! I'll be interested to see if it survives our non-winter here in Brisbane, let alone colour up, but I'll take what I can get. :)
