Because you are a student and cant afford it? Thats me :( My cheap Chinese made knob cutters only meet on one side and tend to damage the tree more than my cheap $8 saw does, so i frequently use that instead. You do what you can with what you have.

There in lies the rub you do more damage with cheap Bonsai tool's. Get some decent secateurs. Mum and Dad usually have a pair. They are just as good to start with
