Yes, just downloaded the free version and it seems to accommodate most of the things I need. I would be good if someone who has a complete sheetfacts for different species to share a record with us. Things like type of soil, fert, and prunning and repot time etc...

What would you guys say are the "things you need" anyway?

as Kvan stated above, things like repotting times, styles that suit the species, ways of pruning, when to wire and when to take the wire off, maybe a fertiliser calander suited to our australian conditions.

i think stuff like that would be handy, but on the other hand it would be quite hard to get detailed info like that for every species.

For some reason I could not export the data. Anyone has this problem/bug?

I have tried them before and didn't like the stuff around with it all, rather spend more time with the trees.....

BUT....

I've just downloaded this one and its simple and clean, no over the top rubbish which is a change.

Yes I bought the programme on Ebay about 2 years ago.
I bought it not expecting very much and considered it an investment in learning more with data bases etc.

It is a limited database and I found it does not go far enough for a keen bonsai person.
It provides for 3 photos only when I would like to have the entire photographic history on the file.

It has a good selection of fields which you can name to suit your soursobs, orchids, or Bonsai, but not enough for what I wanted to do.
After using it for about 6 months I grew frustrated as I wanted things like a Calendar which would alert me to when last repotted and next one due, wiring on/off , last defoliated when next due, last fertilised with what and when next due etc .

Like all these things we start out wanting a basic database but once we see what a good or better database is capable of we shift our goals. In this case i shifted my requirements spectacularly so am still looking for a better database programme.

If you check Ebay you will see this guy sells it as an Orchid database, Cactus CD, a Rhododendron Database, Azaleas, Fruit trees, Weeds and Soursobs etc etc etc as he has designed it to serve all masters.

Japh, if you have something coming up i would say there would be a good number of ausbonsai members interested, including me.

I'm working on it, though it's a little slow going right at the moment because of my work situation. Hoping to change that to free up more time for it though

Software alerts would be handy I guess, but not as handy as actually going out and physically looking at the tree(s) in question.

I bought the software a similar time frame ago as you but I have found it to be really good. The only problemm I have had is that sometimes I have been a bit "rusty" in use of databases and I have occasionally mucked it up a bit, but then found it reasonably easy to undo my misgivings.

Whilst the front page for each plant record is limited to 4 photos, the "Growth Record" tab has unlimited records of photos and details of each and every plant record ie - you can store as many photos as your computer has hard disk capacity.
In that sense it is really neat because it keeps everything locked together and you can easily see the transition or development of each tree.

I am currently overseas (again ...grrrr), but would be happy to step you through it over the phone when I get back, just PM a number and I will give you a call early November.

Japh, Even though I get a lot of benefit from the software I use presently, I have no alegiance or tie to it and would also would be interested in what you come up with. One thing about software - there are always better apckages out there.
