The pruning is done like this.... In winter, remove any dead branches and shorten branches that have grown too long without ramifying and seal all wounds.
In summer, wait until the new growth has grown out quite a bit - wait until the colour of the stem changes from green to brownish (usually about 6 or 8 mature leaves) - then cut to one, two or three buds depending on where it is going. You can wire for direction at this point if you want. Then let the new shoots from this and prune again the same way if necessary. Don't cut too often - let them grow out. They need constant feeding during the whole growing period and must not dry out or you won't get good results.

Great tree and enjoyed revisiting the trees progression.
Appreciate the detailed and easy to understand how to tame the quince.
