ok here's an entry...
after much consideration on the pictures given, i chose the picture 3 as my preferred front.
and since the top has died back i would chop it off to create a big uro with some small jagged bits sticking out, or just left to heal for a sweet rolled over section near the top.
this would allow for better taper and to grow on for the apex to create the movement shown, with a slight angle adjustment as pic...

after growing on for branches and a canopy...

sorry to add these later; i have also reworked the design to reflect the discription better. my thoughts on my design were to create a typical aysmmetric oak style with the wide long lower branch on one side. this is the side the base and apex grows towards. i am sure this is the side the best water and sun source is on. the nebari backs this up. this design not only depicts the characteristics of oak but also makes for a more powerful and compact design. most importantly the story of this tree has logic and credibility

I use Adobe Photoshop CS3, but many people even use Paintshop.
Whatever you have access to pretty much!

Heres My Take on your Cork Oak Leigh!
I've created an image that hopefully helps my explanation on how i would go about sculpting this into a lovely Windswept piece.
(obviously over quite a few years!)
corkoak1.JPG
I've used image no# 1 as my viewing angle.
Upon repotting, we give him a tilt to the left (27 degrees approx)
and give that uncompromising chunk of wood the chop! taking a "V" cut to allow for two separate branches to form from the oversized trunk. and removing unwanted branches
(all, except for the three marked for wiring and a possible branch for the apex in the undecipherable mess to the right of our slightly curved V cut, if none are to be seen, hopefully we can bud a new one.)
We allow growth for a few years, increasing the girth and length of our three/four branches (whilst wiring them) and to recuperate from the apex cut.
Then we get down to business and take our wedge cut into the left side of the trunk, allowing us to bend and brace our trunk, further increasing our concept of the windswept design.
and so, we wait again! While our trunk heals before removing our heavy duty bracing, and we wire our four windswept branches some more
Before our final Product!
With a Pale Cream to Light Yellow or White Pot, with a rough 'aged' finish to complement our white Craggy Bark and Green Green leaves!

G'Day Leigh,
Please find attached my virtual image for the
Ledanta Virtual Competition Nov 2009. Leigh I would grow it like an old oak! chunky corky branches that go every which way. This is the first time I have created a 'virtual' and it is rather fun. I wouldn't waste this thick cork-barked trunk on a quickie bonsai- back in the ground or a big flat wooden box- where I would grow six or seven of the branches outwards and upwards, wire them early and remove the wire soon, let them grow until they thickened to be about 1/4 the thickness of the trunk and then lop them back to 5-10 cm long, making sure no two were the same length. And then do it all over again. Each time new shoots were selected I would train them in different directions to get some overlap to create depth with back and front branches. After several strong branches around the top were well established I would then hollow the top (the old top) to look like Attenborough's old oak in 'secrect life of plants'.
It is a lot of fun seeing how different people visualise a tree when presented with the same material.
cheers
Ash
