that pot works quite well with the tree, good choice. It's the right size and shape and complements the tree nicely without taking attention away from the tree. With the slant you've also hit the spot to correctly position the tree, well done.I've recently bought an older clerodondron which I've put into a grow pot for now as it was very pot-bound. When the time comes I'll be facing the same concerns as you just have, so this will be good to look back on.

Nicely done, it looks great in it's new pot. There's trend to more textured pots these days which can work well but I like seeing a rugged tree in a simple clean pot, it really brings the tree out.

Hi All,

A bit of advice needed - or at least - am I doing the right thing?

This cedar has woken up much earlier than others this year and it’s looking really healthy. Cool!

Last year I successfully pinched new growth - especially on the deodara variety that has much longer needles and growth ... my question is do the same here where the growth and needles are much shorter ... I am think of pinching where the tweezers are pointed.

I’d use scissors. If you tear damage the remaining growth you won’t get basal buds

I always just pinched cedars to good effect, I found scissors too annoying while trying not to cut the other needles around the point I was trying to cut.

The structure of the growing tips looks very similar to those of juvenile needle foliage of some junipers. Those I always pluck or pinch and never had problems. If you're unsure try some and wait for a result.

Thanks for your replies. As it happens, I posted the question a few weeks back and in the meantime, made my own decision. I pinched. Hopefully I haven't caused too much damage! Here's the tree as it was today. and One_Bonsai ... I hope you don't want to 'delete' my tree!

Interesting and scary.... I thought I killed this! While my cedrus deodara responded brilliantly to finger pinching - this went into shock. I truly thought it was dead .... needles dropped - it lost vigour, seemed to turn a faded green ... f-bombs went off in my skull. Anyway - it seems to have stabilised .... I hope! I do love seeing this tree each day when I sip my morning coffee .... I find the shadows interesting actually. Anyway - I hope I see it for a bit longer yet.
