Beaut trees, love the colour. I only have one CM showing anything much, and it's more yellows and golds rather than red. Fingers crossed that'll change soon.

I’d think you would at Redland, it gets cold enough, I used to live in Wellington Point. More in winter in QLD, than autumn. Where I lived in brisbane we had one in the garden at the unit block which always turned red and dropped the leaves.

I’m thinking that an oval pot would suit this tree better. I think In the long term, a nice glazed simple oval pot with straight up and down edges, in sage greeny-grey and cream glaze could be nice. Or the other colour I’ve shown below:

Crepe 2 update:
Nice amounts of root growth this year. It was a little slow on top but I’m thinking it was just in too small a pot. It’s now back in the original pot until I find it one I think it suits better. I nearly pinched the one I had made last year which is waiting for my hawthorn but lucky for the hawthorn, it doesn’t suit the crepe!
It’s turning out to be a lovely tree. Just need a back branch still (3rd from bottom would be good).

Front
Back
Two years ago I accidentally shopped off the wrong back branch (there were two at one point and one had died back). I can’t get another bud to reshoot there now. If I don’t get one this year I might have to graft one on. Does anyone have experience thread grafting a crepe? Or other ways to graft a branch that might be simpler?
I put some wire on today, just for some vague shaping. Accidentally snapped off some tender buds where that gap is but there are more coming in there so it’ll be fine.
